The Food Festival, organized by the Deputy Mayor for Culture, Education and Tourism of the Municipality of Thessaloniki in cooperation with the “15th Biennale De La Mediterranee” and the Tourist Organization of Thessaloniki, opens its doors on Friday 4 November.
The event starts with “Gastronomy: 9 young chefs cook”, an action organised under “15th Biennale De La Mediterranee”. The weekend from Friday 4 to Sunday, 8 November, at Warehouse 13 in the port of Thessaloniki, nine young chefs will introduce the audience to dishes from their homeland (Lebanon, Italy, Spain, Palestine, Kosovo, San Marino) during a big “cooking” party.
On the weekend 12-13 November, Warehouse 13 will host the exhibition of local products, entitled “Taste Explorations”. Visitors will have the opportunity to see, smell and taste products from all over Greece and meet the people who make them. In addition, people follow workshops, masterclasses with famous chefs and interesting discussions on the future of gastronomy in the city.
The famous Cretan products will be the protagonists in the weekend 18-19 November on 20 November the Festival will host the “Pancretian Quality Product Expo” of the City of Chania.
A big feast with the name “Children in the kitchen” will also take place on 20 November, aiming to bring children close to gastronomy. The young guests will have the opportunity to experiment with different ingredients, test their culinary skills, participate in interactive games and watch theatrical performances.
The local catering businesses are also participating in the Thessaloniki Food Festival. So, “Tuesday evening we eat out”, as every Tuesday in November several restaurants and cafés propose a menu of 10 € and give the opportunity to taste original gourmet dinners. Photo exhibitions and presentations of cookbooks organized by the Municipal libraries will supplement the programme.
Thessaloniki Food Festival will end on the weekend 3-4 December, putting under its auspices the Wines and Spirits Expo called “Map of Flavours” which is being organized during the last nine years at Warehouse C, at the Port.
